The World Series is in full swing, and it’s already starting to look like a classic competition. Currently, the series is tied at one game apiece and both teams have shown great prowess on offense and on defense. This series may go the distance. In the first game, the pitcher Lee was able to pitch the entire game without an earned run. Sabathia was unable to contain the Phillies, with one player hitting two home runs. In the second game, there were some big plays, but nothing that was out of reach. Just some good solid baseball from both teams. The Phillies will be playing at home, but they might have taken the home field advantage away from the Yankees this time.

Last season, it looked like the Redskins were doing a decent job of showing up to games and giving it their all. It even looked like they might be able to compete with the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants for the division title. But since about midseason last year they have simply been unable to get the job done. This year has been riddled with complications, especially after their coach was reassigned in his duties during a game a couple weeks ago. It’s not sure if that means that he’s effectively fired or if it means that he’s going to be fired, or if he’s just out. Washington is a team that has some talent, but obviously can’t get themselves going at this point. After they lost last weekend to Kansas City, they realized the problems they were actually going to have. This week, losing 27-17 to the Eagles, they are out of ideas it would seem. They’re going to have to make a new start unless they can change things at this point. Let’s keep our eyes on this team to see if they can’t make some big adjustments.

The MLB playoffs are happening right now and I just wanted to take a second and review where we are. The playoffs are careening towards the World Series. In fact, we already know the National League’s team. The Phillies just beat the Dodgers in 5 games, with some big wins. The Dodgers just didn’t have any offense over the course of the series, while Philly just keeps getting better. In the American league, the series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim has not yet been resolved. It was a lot of fun to watch their Game 5 last night, where the Angels held off a late comeback by the Yankees to win and send the series back to the Bronx. The assumption is that the Yankees will win, but it’s not a done deal, despite their 3-2 lead.

The New Orleans Saints are working their way higher in the world right now. They have started the season the best in many years. They just beat the New York Giants this weekend by a wide margin and now we’re watching the entire New York organization deal with trouble. We expected them to play much better this year, and Eli Manning hasn’t been himself for a few weeks in a row. They haven’t been dominant and they just haven’t gotten any kind of stride yet. Meanwhile, the Saints have been getting better with each season and there is one group that says that they are perhaps the best team in the NFL right now, Orton’s Broncos notwithstanding. It’s going to be a good time to see how many of these strong starters are able to continue playing so well towards the end of the season but it’s cool to see their start anyhow.

Albert Pujols isn’t in a big hurry to talk about a contract extension with the St. Louis Cardinals. His contract runs through next year and the team has stated their interest in extending that contract further, but Pujols is leaving his options open. He said it in a very kind way, however, saying that he’s content to play this next season and then leave the rest in the hands of providence. That is to say, he’s probably going to see how the team does next year, to see if they get better or worse and then make his decision. Maybe there are some personnel changes that he wants to see and his decision will be contingent upon that? Who knows, but I’m sure the Cardinals are going bonkers because they want to solidify him for a longer time.

The Boston Red Sox suffered their final loss of the season in a disappointing way. They ended up losing their game in the final frame. They were ahead by two runs in the top of the 9th. But then the Angels rallied to take the lead in the inning, with 3 runs. Then the Sox had to work their way back in the bottom of the 9th, but it didn’t work out. The disappointment was palpable in the stadium and they are now out of the playoffs for 2009. There will be no rematch with the Yankees. No World Series. The Angels are going to play the Yankees and it’s going to be very exciting to see how this turns out. The Angels are the surprise team of the year and the Yankees were the top team in the league. The Yankees must be the heavy favorites, but the Angels have been able to surprise everyone this year.

Over the years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been known as a team that just can’t seem to win the championship. Cleveland Cavaliers tickets will let you be there as they push to finally win the big series! They have had many talented players over the years, but they haven’t been able to get it together. This year is very important for the Cavs though. It is the last year on the LeBron James contract and it’s certainly a possibility that they will want to finally get that trophy. Last year, it was widely thought that they were tough competitors for the championship, but they were knocked out by a tough Orlando team. But this year, they have learned their lesson and will almost certainly make the playoffs. Now that they have Shaq to give them the needed size and blocking that they’ve been lacking, their prospects look even better.

The Tennessee Titans won as many as 10 games in a row last season. They were one of the most dominant teams and it’s not year clear what’s happened to them. But unfortunately they are at 0-4 this season. They have been hoping to catch up, but they dropped yet another game this weekend. To be fair, the season started out very tough for them, with games against the Jets and Steelers, as well as yesterday’s game against the suddenly talented Jaguars. But the real problem was their loss to the incapable Houston Texans. The Titans have been having a lot of trouble getting into the rhythm that they had last season. Upcoming games against Indy, New England and Jax again in a row with one bye week will no doubt keep this team on their toes. Hopefully they can catch their breath. They are keeping Kerry Collins as the starting QB, so they think that he’s able to lead the team, even if it’s looking bad so far.

This year is shaping up to be an exciting one with the playoffs coming up. Starting next week, there will be some very intense games. With the Red Sox potentially headed towards a rematch with the Yankees and it’s going to be especially important. But maybe the Angels, Tigers or Twins will mess up that possibility. On the other side, the Dodgers, Phillies, Cardinals and Rockies will be duking it out to see which one will end up in the World Series. MLB playoff tickets are available to you already so that you can watch your favorite team working themselves all the way up to the championship!
