The Final Four has finally been decided. UConn, Villanova, Michigan State and North Carolina will be battling it out over the next week to become the national champion of the NCAA Men’s Tournament. It’s a great time for these teams and it’s clear that these teams have been dominant for much of the year anyway. There are two #1 teams, a #2 and a #3. If you want to root for the underdog, I wish you luck finding one. But with these impressive teams playing against each other, it’s going to be a very impressive competition this week. If I had to pick, I would guess that UNC will probably make it all the way. But these other teams are running on great momentum, so there’s a good possibility that they could take it too. Stay tuned for more NCAA Mens Tournament news.

As you know, I like to put in some information about the German soccer leagues on this blog every once in awhile. Not because I expect that you will be especially interested, but just because it’s interesting to me. Jurgen Klinsmann, the coach of Bayern Munchen, came out with an interview lately, explaining the difficulties he’s had on his team this year. He came with the purpose of making B-M better in the Champions League against other European teams. But now he will need to focus on the Bundesliga itself, to try and win the championship amongst the German teams. It’s going to be a challenge, because they have a bunch of difficult teams to play against over the next several weeks, but it should be entertaining nevertheless. Other teams that might win are Bayer-Leverkusen, Hoffenheim, and Stuttgart. And those are teams that Bayern will be playing against.

The MLS expansion team Seattle Sounders FC won their first game against the New York Red Bulls decisively by a score of 3-0. It was a very impressive showing, with Fredy Montero dominating the game, with two goals and an assist. This bodes well for the team, which packed their stadium with excited fans. It was one of the most exciting games that they could have seen too, although New York had trouble even getting into a rhythm of any kind. What a fun game it was and what a good way to start off the new club’s life. It’s one of those games that the people are going to remember for a long time to come! Congrats to Seattle and hopefully they will live well into the future!
The Boston Bruins of the NHL are really having a rough go of it right now. The team started out the year as one of the dominant teams in the league and remained this for most of the season. Until the last month or so. Since then, they have gone way under .500, losing something like 12 out of the last 18, I’m not completely sure. But they only have a little while left before they will have to take charge in the playoffs, should they make them. They will probably make the playoffs, that’s not the problem I expect them to have. But will they get past the first round? Certainly the Bruins will try to get further, but whatever the mysterious problem the team is having at the moment needs to be solved in the next 15 games or so, otherwise the summer may be a little bit long for this team.

Tiger Woods shot 1 under 71 in the opening round today. This is his second tournament this year, after having been out for more than 8 months with a knee injury. It’s going to be a difficult year for him, because it always takes awhile to get into the swing of things after such an injury, but he’s going to be working on it some more. He left the first tournament awhile back because he wasn’t good enough, and he was hoping to keep going more after this first round this week. But he’s doing better than the last tournament, and then he’ll be able to jump in and dominate again at some point. But obviously he’s disappointed at this result at this point. He had hoped to be in the leading position or close to it and it’s just not happening quite yet.

The 8 runs in the sixth inning helped out the USA team in the World Baseball Classic against the Venezuela team this weekend. The team has been doing well so far in the tournament, with a record of 2-0 and it’s working out well for them. Japan seems to be doing well too, and there are a couple of other teams, although it is seriously too soon to know for real how they are doing. The next games might be even harder, but if this team can make 8 runs in a single inning, then there is a lot of firepower in the clubhouse this year. Stay tuned to see more about it!

The rematch is on! The UFC announced earlier this week that the heavyweight title bout will take place on May 23 in Las Vegas, at the MGM Grand. When you get UFC 98 tickets Lesnar and Mir will be going up against each other once again, in a match that Lesnar hopes will put the memory of their last bout 18 months ago behind him. That time, he got him to submission in only 90 seconds. Brock Lesnar has remained one of the dominant fighters in the league for quite awhile and now will be fighting for the championship. Frank Mir, on the other hand, has had a much more checkered career. He had a great run when he first entered the league 8 years ago, but then he had a tough run and then battled back to get 3 big wins in a row. It’s going to be an amazing rematch and you should make sure not to miss it.

We are in the midst of a big NFL story at the moment. Over the weekend, two NFL players and two former college football players went off on a fishing trip off the coast of Florida. The boat did not return as expected and no one heard from anyone about it. Today there are reports that the boat, which was carrying NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, has now been found. Then it’s been reported that Nick Schuyler, one of the former college players, was rescued from the boat, having held onto it since Saturday. He has spoken with members of his family and seems to be doing well. There is still hope for the other three on the trip, so we’ll have to keep an eye on this story.
