Not Rising the Phoenix

The Arizona Cardinals will have a tough time losing their division this year. They are at 7-5, and the second place team is at 4-8 (that is the hapless, helpless San Francisco 49ers). But they seem to be doing their best to fritter away their lead, having lost a couple of big games the last few weeks. Last Thursday, their Thanksgiving was ruined by the Philadelphia Eagles, who beat them 48-20. The Eagles were thus able to stop their losing streak, but they’re playing for honor, because their division is much too strong to win, with the 11-1 Giants at the top. Placed in the NFC West with the Cardinals, they would be 1/2 game back. Tough luck there. Some divisions are strong, some aren’t. So Arizona may go to the playoffs with a worse season record than the Eagles. Oh well.
