Shaq used to play for the Miami Heat. Shawn Marion used to play for the Phoenix Suns. Shaq now plays for the Suns. Marion now plays for the Heat. The Heat will play the Suns tonight. See where we’re going here? Both men were fan favorites on their old teams. Marion led a successful career with the Suns and Shaq brought the Heat a championship. So now when they both play against their former teams, expect a lot of pride and intensity to be shown. Each player may have some sage advice for his fellow teammates about the schemes of the opposing team as well…

Close, No Cigar

They held with the Giants for most of the game but were just unable to close it out. The Arizona Cardinals were able to fight fire with fire yesterday, tallying up a decent amount of points against the miserly Giants defense. However, they couldn’t quite keep up with the Giants’ offense and special teams. The Cardinals high-powered offense can do little to help out its defense and special teams. So though they could score points, the Cardinals couldn’t deny them.

Monday Night Football

Last night, the Cleveland Browns took on the Buffalo Bills and it was a good game. There were a bunch of really nice long throws and some beautiful catches. It was capped by at 56 yard field goal with less than 2 minutes left, lifting the Browns to a 29-27 win.  The game was a big fun. The teams switched leads several times in the last 2:30 of the game. Earlier it looked like Cleveland might lose their third game by dropping a big lead late, yet again. But this time they were able to bring it back, but it was a crazy finish.  The final blow for Buffalo came when their field goal kicker missed the 47 yarder with about 30 seconds left. This is what Monday Night Football is made for. Two struggling teams, really fighting it out. No blowout, nothing foregone. How fun!

Branch and Hasselbeck

The Seattle Seahawks will get a much needed boost this weekend when both their star quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and clutch-hands receiver Deion Branch return to the lineup. Seattle (2-7) absolutely needs each player to be in top form as they will be taking on their divisional rival/leaders Arizona Cardinals. Holmgren calls it a must win game.

Favre fitting in

In week 2, the Jets and Patriots met at the Meadowlands.  They will meet again this week in New England. The Patriots, looking at the films from the first week, noticed that Favre was looking a little bit off with his new team.  But looking at the tapes from last week, in preparation for the next game, he looks much more at ease with the New York system and their way of playing.  Quarterbacks have it tough in this league, because offensive systems are so complicated these days and they have to learn and execute several hundred plays and different iterations of the same plays. So I can imagine how hard it is to switch teams as a QB. Anyway, he’s looking better and the Jets seem to be much closer to contention than we might have expected at the beginning of the season.

The Ryane Shark

Ryane Clowe, left wing for the San Jose Sharks, capped off an incredible performance the other night against the  St. Louis Blues when the Sharks moved on to win the match 5-4 in a shootout victory. With a bloodied left eye, Clowe tied the game twice for the Sharks when they needed it most. But he wasn’t done yet. Or at least, he didn’t know he was done. When the shootout came, he wasn’t expecting to get a shot. But when his coach gave him the tap on the shoulder, Clowe did it again and blew one past the Blues’ goalie. The Sharks remain unbeaten at home this year.

Chicago vs. New England: MLS Playoffs

Posted on Nov 03, 2008 under Uncategorized | Comments are off

Last Thursday night, the Chicago Fire played to a 0-0 draw against the New England Revolution.  The teams are trying to get the MLS championship this year and have some stiff competition.  In the game, Chicago scored a header, but it was negated on review and so there was no point.  These two teams have met in the last 4 playoffs, and New England has won it 4 out of the 6 meetings overall.  But Chicago has won the championship before.  So it’s up for grabs and there’s no real sense that either of these teams can dominate over the other one.  It will definitely be an amazing series and we’ll see where it goes from here. The series is determined by the total goals scored, rather than games won.
