Usain Bolt has had an Olympics to remember. The Jamaican has been running like a cheetah and has set world records in both the 100m and 200m sprint races. He was expected to face stiff opposition from a few other competitors but has won both the races with humongous margins. He is also known as the Superman and is officially the fastest man on Earth now. He broke his own record in 100 m and clocked 9.69 s. He broke Michael Johnson’s 12 year old 200m record with a blistering run of 19.3 seconds to earn him the second gold medal. He mentioned in a press conference that he was now also looking forward to running the 400m race by the time the next Olympics arrive.

The USA U18 team won silver medal at the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Formosa, Argentina. They lost 77-64 in a very exciting matchup against Argentina. They put up a brave fight in spite of an early deficit. Kemba Walker (Rice H.S. / New York, N.Y.), who will suit up for the University of Connecticut in the fall, led all scorers with 21 points and was named the tournament MVP. Malcom Lee of John W. North H.S and Travis Releford of Bishop Miege chipped in with good performances too. Coach Bob McKillop was very happy with the performance and was proud of the team’s never say die attitude. Michael Phelps won his 5rd gold at the Olympics by winning the 4x 200 m relay Freestyle event. He has now won 5 gold medals at the games. The previous day he had won his third gold and registered himself in history to become only the fifth person ever to have won 9 career gold medals at the Olympics. Phelps looks all set to achieve the magical figure of 8 gold medals. He finished up with 6 gold medals in Athens in 2004 and since then has never looked back. American swimmers Aaron Peirsol and Liesel Jones also made the nation proud by winning gold in their respective categories.

The Al East leaders, Tampa Bay Rays, were stunned by a resurgent Mariners team last Thursday night, as they closed the game with a towering homer by Raul Ibanez that sealed them victory over the rays by 2-1. Ibanez said that he was very happy to have scored the home run to win the game for his team and expected this to be one game that will turn the fortunes of his team. It is a lost season for the Mariners, but their spirits are still very high. The Mariners were overjoyed by this victory over the top contenders for the MLB title this season and there will be more Mariners’ fans buying tickets for their remaining games this season.

The NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants to quickly settle the row between the Packers management and their veteran quarterback Brett Favre as this issue has been doing rounds in the NFL for quite sometime now. Goodell is hopeful that a final decision will come out on Monday as both the parties are seriously discussing this issue. There is all possibility that Brett Favre will be reinstated and the Packers management will then have a day to decide on whether to consider him in the active roster of the Packers or to cut him out. Favre’s fans will be hoping that their star performer comes out his retirement and play for the Packers this NFL season, There are still a few more tickets available to the Packers opening game of the season.

The Baltimore Orioles held their nerve until the last inning to beat New York Yankees by 7-6 in a keenly contested game of baseball at the Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. Daniel Cabrera was on top pitching form as he did not allow the Yankees to score a single run in the first five innings of the game. Four RBI’s were scored by Aubrey Huff and the Orioles by virtue of this win have clinched the series against the Yankees. The tremendous improvements in the overall game of the Orioles have left the baseball world aghast. The Orioles fans are rushing to buy their tickets due to the recent showing by the team.
