WTA Tour Awards presented
Posted on Mar 31, 2008 under tennis |The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) presented the sports leading tour awards last Thursday during the Key Biscayne tournament and the world number one player received the award for the best WTA tour player of the year. The world’s top ranked women tennis player who hails from Belgium has won this award for the second time in her glittering career. Henin won 10 of the 14 WTA events last year and was the first woman in the tennis history to earn a total of $ 5 million prize money last year.
The WTA doubles players of the year went to Liza Huber and Cara Black and the pair had won the Wimbledon and Australian Open in 2007. Liza Huber also won the player services award which is given to a player for her contributions outside the court. Lindsay Davenport the former world number one player won the comeback player of the year award and Ana Ivanovic, the hot Serbian player, won the most improved player title. The new comer of the year award went to Agnes Szavay.
